Node reference

Media Placeholder

Add Node → Input → Media Placeholder

An empty slot that stands in for media you don’t have yet. It exists for one reason: building reusable templates.

Because it can act as an image, a video, or an audio source, you can wire it into any of those input types on a generator before you’ve actually dropped anything into it. Fill it later, and it turns into a real node in that spot, keeping every wire you’ve already drawn.

What’s on the node

An empty Media Placeholder node reading “Drop media here”

Area What goes in it
The slot Reads “Drop media here” until it’s filled. Double-click for a file picker, or drop a file straight onto it.
IVA The output, on the right. It stands in for all three, so it lands on an image, video or audio input alike — and once you fill it, it settles into whichever one the file actually is.

There’s no input side: nothing feeds a placeholder, it’s where media enters your graph. More on handles in How nodes connect.

Filling it

Double-click it to open a file picker, or just drop a file onto it — from Finder or from your Media Library. The moment a file lands, the placeholder becomes a real image, video, or audio node.

Using it as a template

Build your workflow once with placeholders wherever the input will change from job to job. Wire everything up the way you want it, then save the project. For each new job, duplicate the project and drop that job’s media into the slots — no rewiring needed.

One thing to remember: an empty placeholder blocks generation, since there’s nothing to send yet. Fill it before you hit generate.
